The World vs. Your Health…The Health Strikes Back!

What is Health?  Is health merely just the absence of disease? Is it the presence of complete social, mental, and physical well-being? I have to admit, I used to think it was the former…then as I got a little older I believed it was the latter. But ever since I’ve been introduced to the world of Health & Wellness, I’d have to agree that health is that state of mind, body, and spirit that allows for proper function, joy, and peace of mind. I have also come to the realization that it’s my lifestyle choices that have the greatest influence on my health. The decision to eat those foods that are bad for me and then to skip going to the gym all week was mine to make…as was the decision to take on all that additional responsibility at work knowing that I haven’t been spending enough time at home enjoying life with loved ones. The choices we make in our everyday lives play an integral role in the quality of the lives we live. So it should be no surprise that if you don’t make habit changes, such as letting go of daily abuses of sugar, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and junk foods, your health will not improve. It’s foolish to continue with the same actions and still expect different results.

What determines your Health? In essence, we are being cheated out of our good health and wellness by ignorance. We live in a polluted environment, and our diet and lifestyle make us prone to chronic illnesses. Although our bodies perform internal cleansing on a daily, moment-by-moment basis, our normal channels of detoxification can be overwhelmed by the polluted environment in which we live. A food supply laden with pesticides and preservatives, deficient in nutrients due to mineral-depleted soil, in addition to other by-products of a stressful life, can contribute to failing health.  With the deck stacked against us, the question remains…what can we do to overcome these obstacles?  I feel as though each of us has the power within ourselves to heal our pain and dysfunctions.

How do I achieve good Health? Well, first we must understand that the quality of your life is determined by the quality of your choices.  Once we have that understanding, we then have the power to improve our health and well-being step by step by making better choices. Education is key. You certainly can educate yourself about how your body works. Seek the help of a trained health professional, and begin to make wiser, health-promoting choices in the realms of eating, exercise, relaxation, and relationships.  But until you take action, education is worthless. To know and not do is not to know. Remember, it’s a mindset!

Success & Sacrifice

Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.  Nothing in life is free… I know it sounds cliché, but it’s the truth.  I personally feel that success is the counterpart of sacrifice, and that you have to sacrifice something in order to achieve some level of success. Whether we sacrifice time with our families for our careers, the health and wellness of our bodies to make a living, or our own happiness for the happiness of others…we always seem to be giving up something that’s important to us. That is why balance is so important to a meaningful, healthy lifestyle.

How do you balance success and sacrifice? The key is to stay motivated, maintain a strong, healthy mindset, and remain focused on your goals. Health & Wellness is not only about having a healthy body…it’s about having a strong mind, too. And like any muscle in the body, you have to train your mind by exercising the patience and determination it takes to shape steel.

Never underestimate the impact of a good mental attitude.   If you have peace of mind, you can find happiness under the most difficult circumstances. As you calm your mind and your heart, your agitation and worry will naturally subside, and you will enjoy more happiness. Forget about all of the people who have their own opinions on things. It’s easier to change the way you think about someone than it is to change the way someone thinks.

Hopelessness is the real cause of failure. Do not give up. If you are pessimistic from the beginning, you cannot possibly succeed. If you are hopeful and determined, you will always find some measure of success. If you practice improving your mind with a strong will and forbearance by trying, trying, trying no matter how many difficulties you may encounter at the beginning…then you will succeed.

Detox your mind… it is a necessary process in your journey to Health & Wellness. In order to achieve the level of overall peace, tranquility, and mental wellness we often desire, we must minimize negative energies and cultivate kindness with a warm heart.

Reading someone else’s blueprint of mental progress will not transfer its realizations to you. You have to develop them yourself. Remember, it’s a mindset!

Out With The Old…

You can’t pour a hot bath in a tub that’s half full with cold water…it just doesn’t make sense. Think about it…are you gonna just slap some new paint on to an old car without priming it or getting the dings out first? Well…your body is the ultimate classic vehicle…and we’re going to return it to mint, pristine condition. But first,  we gotta wash, prime, and prep it for restoration. And to do that…we must DETOX!

Oxygen is one of the most essential elements for good health.  While eating, drinking, and merely living our normal daily lives, we are constantly taking unnatural synthetic non-food substances into our bodies.  Preservatives, artificial colorings, flavorings, smog, fungi, artificial chemicals, hydrogenated oil, and fumes all contribute to the oxygen depletion in our bodies…not to mention stress of everyday living.  We obviously cannot avoid all oxygen-depleting conditions, but we can improve our chances of having good health by introducing our bodies to the wonders of cellular hydration.

Oxygen is very important to the body’s healing process. The red blood cells in our bodies carry oxygen to each cell via our circulatory system, allowing them to create energy from food, as well as counteract the detrimental affects of free radical damage. Without an adequate supply of oxygen, food can’t be metabolized or turned into energy. Waste products such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid build up, causing fatigue, shortness of breath, and chronic muscle soreness.

One way of boosting oxygen in the cells is with hyperbaric oxygen, where patients are submerged in tanks and exposed to high oxygen concentrations (as in severe burn cases). Another way is to breathe from an oxygen tank with a mouth piece or nasal tube. Neither one of these options is very conducive to our every day activities…unless you’re a scuba diver.  A third, more practical way to boost your oxygen level is to ingest products which increase the oxygen content in the cells.  Such a formulation would have to allow cells to create oxygen from water already within our bodies and to act as an antioxident to prevent free radical damage in the cells.

Such a product does exist! 1t’s called “Oxygen Elements Max” and it is designed to distribute oxygen to the cells, increase blood flow, and neutralize free radicals.  Just a few drops in your water or juice 3 times daily is all you need. This will allow the body to flush lactic acid and more efficiently enhance physical performance as a direct result of sufficient blood and oxygen circulation. Oxygen Elements Max may increase endurance and stamina, improve the rate of healing, and reduce chronic muscle soreness & fatigue.  Studies have also shown that people suffering from asthma, emphysema, or other lung problems can improve their condition with oxygen.

So basically, oxygen is life…and oxygenated cells are needed to keep our brains alert, our cells producing maximum energy, and to resist degenerative diseases.  With all of that said, I ask you…‘Got Oxygen?’

Where Do I Start…?

A lot of people ask this same question, and each time I give them the same answer…Start small. Set reasonable goals for yourself…ones that you know you can accomplish. Order water with your meal…get the side salad instead of the fries…you know, small changes, ones you can stick with. I know that you may want to lose 50 pounds or drop down 3-4 dress sizes, but we have to be realistic. Rome wasn’t built in a day…and neither will the glorious temple you call a body. One of the worst things that can happen is that you get frustrated with your results (or lack thereof) and give up completely.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…It’s a mindset.

Health and wellness is not just a lot of sweating, stretching, and lifting heavy things over, over, and over again.  And it’s not about spending the most money for the latest in fitness fads either. Real strength is measured by a person’s will.  Trying to do it all may end up getting you nowhere…maybe even worse off than before if you’re not careful. So it’s best to make a plan for yourself…a Health & Wellness Road Map if you will. This will allow you visually see the changes that you want to make and keep track of your accomplishments so far. Remember, if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll probably end up somewhere else.

If you set realistic goals for yourself, you will have a high success rate which equals lots of confidence. Confidence is a very important attribute to have. It allows us to go outside of our comfort zone to acquire those things that are just beyond our normal limits of reach…and for most of us that’s usually where all the good stuff is. All you need is a map and the confidence to follow it…and just think of Heemdaddy as your GPS.

A New Beginning

I think it all began when I started to go to the gym a little less…and I began eating out a little more. Before I knew it, my pants were starting to fit just a little tighter…and I had to buy my shirts a just a little bigger.  The icing on the cake (no pun intended…well ok maybe) was when I received an “Employee of the Quarter” award in Feburary at work and had to say a few thanks in front of all the Planning & Development staff. Well after the meeting someone came up to me and actually poked my belly like the Pilsbury Dough Boy, while sayin “Boy you look like you’re eating real good.”

Is that what everyone was thinking? Was my potbelly overshadowing my accomplishments? I know I haven’t been as active as I was in college…I know I don’t drink as much water as I’m supposed to…I know that I don’t need to be eating those types of foods even though they taste so good. What I don’t know is…if I know so much…then what am I waiting for??

Maybe it took me to feel embarassed about the way I looked in front of all those people to kick me into high gear…or maybe it was all the people around me making it a priority to work out and frequent the gym.  Whatever the cause, I am more than satisfied with the effect! I lost 40 lbs in a little over 2 months (25 in the first month) and I feel great! I changed my eating habits, exercised regularly, and always took my Global Health Trax supplements (www.ghthealth.com/ra).

It’s a mindset. I believe the hardest part about getting in shape is not the actual exercise. It’s having the will to start…and the perserverence to continue. I personally love the reaction I get now from people…it’s such a commanding and confident feeling to be admired for my physique. I mean I was actually invisible before…and now I feel like I am being watched by all in awe.

The point is that health and wellness are important for many reasons, and whatever your motivation may be is up to you. What I would like to do with Heemdaddy’s Health & Wellness Weblog is to highlight various ways for you to improve your way of life by sharing some of my experiences and secrets to overall Health & Wellness.  As this is my first weblog…I look forward to ”A New Beginning” just like you!
